No time was lost in securing the Services of the Peninsular and Oriental Company's river Steamer "Charles Forbes", and in placing on board of her the Light Company of the 19th Regiment under Captain Clarke, an arrangement kindly and promptly made by Lieut.-Colonel Dunlop, Commanding The Forces. They left that night and on the Sunday succeeded perfectly in their mission, reaching Lükkak and bringing away without bloodshed the Revd. Mr. Mennis who, however, it was found had negotiated his ransom sum of 240 dollars.
